Gaining knowledge on the level of Ritam Bhara Pragya:
Humboldt University, 1971

Brian Josephson, Larry Domash, Prof. Ilya Prigogine, Maharishi at Humboldt University 1971

MAHARISHI: ...there is a level of consciousness which does not change - Ritam Bhara Pragya. We can verify that state of consciousness from our own experience.
I would like you to recall if at any time in your meditation, any time even for a moment, you had some experience
"I know everything" - even a faint glimpse of such a feeling "I know everything".

It is that level of awareness - when the mantra is very, very fine, absolutely very refined, somewhere in that region, there is that level of consciousness where truth dawns. Ritam Bhara means that intellect which accepts only the truth.

It is possible that our conscious mind becomes very familiar with that particular level of awareness so that our mind could stay there. And if the mind could stay there, the mind has only to think the word and all that the word is for all its tendencies, it will just show up as on a television screen.

The word, and what that word is? All that the form is structured into all the qualities that the form has, all the tendencies, all the relative values that the form has are contained in the word. And if the mind can pulsate that word, immediately all the reality of that word will simply show up. Only on that particular level of consciousness (break of tape)

...Experiencing something by stabilizing our awareness on that level and thinking of something immediately, all the structure of that thing, all the value of the thing, tendencies of that thing, will simply show up as on a television screen to give us the exact, real, flawless knowledge of what the form is.

This method of gaining knowledge is as faultless and flawless as scientific investigation from the objective side. This is subjective system of gaining knowledge as faultless and flawless as objective, scientific methods of gaining knowledge.

In this system the subjective values, the subjective system of gaining knowledge, not only gives us the ability to have the knowledge of anything within the window of our own heart, but even much before this ability is gained, life is elevated to great levels of satisfaction and fulfilment. Not only one gains knowledge, but one gains the knower in his full glory - knower in his much greater glory as ever before.

And this is the greater advantage of the subjective method of gaining knowledge. And this is by refining the subject. The subjective method of gaining flawless, faultless, real truth about anything is by refining the subject. And in refining the subject obviously the first thing to do
is to take of the blocks which hinder normal functioning of the nervous
system - release of stress.

This method of releasing the stress and leading the nervous system to functioning normally, this procedure going on and then the nervous system becomes refined, becomes purer, and consciousness can be established on that fine level where one is face to face with truth alone. Nothing of untrue could dawn on that level of consciousness only truth will dawn.

This system of gaining knowledge by subjective purification, this is the reason why particularly in this Vedic tradition the value had been given more for inner enlightenment. And the value in the outer it was not emphasised. The whole emphasis of the Vedic culture and Vedic civilisation, Vedic trend of life, had been to enliven this inner value whereby not only one will comprehend the truth alone and one would be saved from facing the untruth, not only this, but along with that greater fulfilment on all levels will dawn. Man will be fully developed...

...the whole secrete of not much bothering about the outer development was on the basis of spontaneity of outer enrichment with this inner enlightenment, subjective value...

MAHARISHI Ritam bhara pragya 1966:

...When we talk of `glow`, we talk in terms of `seeing`, vision. Of course feeling is not eliminated. But seeing dominates more that experience.

We never look forward to `glow`, never. Otherwise it won't `glow`. And in that subtle state of mind... because the mind is so very powerful, if you think something immediately, it will come. . But we don't want to think anything unless we become grounded in the perception of the celestial. field of life.

Having been profoundly established on the experience of the celestial, then of course we could wish to see something here and there. And then just by our thought this thing will flash in its reality, in whatever form. That state of intellect is called ritam bhara.

There was that point some day to express more clearly what ritam bhara pragya is. Ritam means satyam. Satyam means `truth`. Bhara (...?) which accepts only the truth. That state of intellect which only accepts the truth, or which only reflects the truth. In that state only the truth is reflected.

That ritam bhara pragya is that state of intellect, which conceives or perceives things as they are. In that state of celestial experience, if Krishna comes, then he is real Krishna. If Shiva comes, he is real Shiva. If Divine Mother comes, she is real Divine Mother. There is no mental hallucination, there is no other than the real form in that perception.

Until that thing has happened we don't want to desire to see anything. Otherwise, much before that state is gained, you could desire and something flashes, but there won't be the guarantee for truth of it. Something may be right, something may be wrong. Therefore we don't think to see anything until the celsetial vision becomes clear.

And once that is clear, anything could be seen in that state. We desire something and it is there in its true colour. There won't be any mistake in there.

That state of finest mind is called intellect. Much grosser than that also is said to be intellect, (but) that is decisive. That (ritam level) is very fine state of the mind. The thought will be materialized in that state very quickly.

There are two aspects of materialization of a thought. One is the fulfilment of the thought, the other is the material perception of the thought. Both will happen. But as long ritam bhara pragya has not been fully developed, perceptions may be faulty, may be faulty. There won't be 100% guarantee for its truth.

So, we allow it to develop. With regularity of practice it develops automatically. These are the fields where we don't force. (By) forcing we may be mislead. and may not be developed systematically.

Question: The other evening you said that ritam bhara pragya would be something even beyond the celestial and you said that what would be responsible for the knowledge of `I am all this`, so to say.

MAHARISHI: from there (the finest relative, celestial) to that extent (`I am all this`), all the way.

Question: It is both celestial and beyond celestial?

MAHARISHI: Because in the celestial (is) the materialization of the thoughts. Thoughts pertaining to relative life, anything pertaining to relative life, anything seen, anything known, anything in the relative field. That also dawns in its true reality, in its truth...

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, 26 July 1971
‘When awareness is permanently established in Pure Consciousness, only the truth will dawn in one’s awareness. This state of consciousness is called Ritam-bhara pragya, “that intelligence which knows only the truth”.
‘During the practice of the Transcendental Meditation Technique, as the awareness goes from the gross thinking level to finer thinking levels and then to the Transcendent, the experience of Ritam-bhara pragya can occur on the finest thinking level, very close to the Transcendent. In this experience one feels “I know everything”. As the practice advances the experience of Ritam-bhara pragya becomes permanently established.
‘When one’s awareness is established on the level of Ritam-bhara pragya, it is possible to produce specific impulses, or sounds, in order to produce any desired influence on an object. This level of consciousness has control over the whole field of objectivity. By developing this ability to produce effects in creation according to one’s desire, one gains mastery over Nature.’

“There is a science, that is not yet discovered, and it deals with geometry and numbers….connecting everything in the universe with everything else”
